James L. “Jim” Turner, 81, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Saturday August 20, 2016, at the Gables Care Center in Hopedale, Ohio.
He was born March 22, 1935 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of the late Albert Turner and Margaret (Duggar) House. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Lee Turner.
Jim was a metallurgist research engineer for National Steel for 44 years. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean War. Jim was a member of the Brilliant Christian Church and the Brilliant American Legion Post #573 and enjoyed working on cars and fixing things around the house.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marian “Kay” (Sheets) Turner, whom he married on August 18, 1956; seven children, James (Kathy) Turner of Greenville, TX, Terri (Randy) Pierce of Mingo Junction, OH, David (Rebecca) Turner of Lakewood, OH, Jacqueline (Greig) McCoy of Rayland, OH, Steven (Cathy) Turner of Mingo Junction, OH, Frank Turner of Degraff, OH, and Michael (Michelle) Turner of Flat Rock, MI; a sister, Jacqueline (William) Emerson of Lincoln, CA; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter on the way.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Marc R. Tinstman, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Brilliant American Legion Post #573.
There will be legion services Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
