Clyde R. “Ougie” Shaffer, 69, of Zanesville, OH formerly of Brilliant, OH, passed away Tuesday August 1, 2017 in Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, OH.
He was born December 8, 1947 in Brilliant, OH, a son of the late Clyde J. and Gladys C. (Melching) Shaffer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael “Bud” Kimack, Louis J. Shaffer and William L. Shaffer; and two sisters, Nancy C. Shaffer and Mary Ann Lingenfelter.
Clyde worked at the former Ohio Ferro Alloys and then retired from Glass Rock in Zanesville, OH. He served his country in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for being wounded during Vietnam. He was a member of the Brilliant American Legion Post #573; the Zanesville American Legion Post #29; and the Zanesville V.F.W. Post #1058.
Surviving are a sister, Delores C. Shaffer of Brilliant, OH; and a brother, Charles Kimack of Montgomery, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.
In following with Clyde’s wishes he was cremated.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday August 19th at the Zanesville American Legion, 27 South Third Street, from 3-6 p.m.. Please bring a covered dish and wear your OSU attire.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday September 30th at the Brilliant American Legion, 206 Market St., at Noon. A covered dish social will follow the service until 3:00 p.m. please wear your OSU attire.
