Catherine E. "Kaye" Steedman

Catherine E. “Kaye” Steedman, 91, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday December 7, 2016 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV.

She was born April 13, 1925 in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas P. and Margaret C. (McDonald) Wade. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. “Sweet Pea” Steedman, Sr. in 1998; a son, Charles L. Steedman, Jr. in 1984; and eleven siblings, Thomas, Walter, Mary Margaret, Helen Grace Staats, George, Joseph, Jimmy, Teresa, Edward, Ann and Dorothy Sikora.

At the age of 16 Catherine ran the scheduling department for the doctors and surgeons at the former Gil Hospital in Steubenville. She left there after high school and went on to work as a bookkeeper at the former Denmark Department Store in Steubenville, Ohio. Kaye’s most important job was being a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, and a good old fashioned homemaker, enjoying baking and cooking in her kitchen. She was Catholic by Faith. She never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone she met. The world wasn’t always good to her but she always saw the good in the world.

Surviving are four children, Linda (Chet) Cree of Galveston, IN, Maggie Wilt of Brilliant, OH, Patty (Mark) Torbett of Wheeling, WV and Bill Steedman of Zionsville, IN; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie, Angie, Jason, Jenny, Emily, Megan, Alyssa, Zachary, Dylan, Savannah and Luke; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and also on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
